. NOW ACCEPTING POETRY FOR CRAM 14
ChicagoPoetry.com is pleased to announce an open call for poetry for its upcoming publication, Journal of Modern Poetry, the fourteenth volume in its Poetry Cram series, scheduled to be released in the fall of 2012. Journal of Modern Poetry will showcase some of the best poetry from some of the brightest poets living today. Each poet selected for inclusion in Journal of Modern Poetry will receive five contributor's copies of the publication. One poem included in the publication will be selected as "Best Modern Poem" and its author will receive a $200 cash prize as well as a page showcasing the winning poem at ChicagoPoetry.com. In addition, up to six poets selected for inclusion in Journal of Modern Poetry will also be nominated by ChicagoPoetry.com for 2013 Pushcart Prizes.
As you probably know by now, our publication Poetry Cram is a fantastic way for talented poets to get their work into the hands of the people as quickly as possible. This is the way it works: each poet selected for inclusion in the publication chips in a small donation toward the cost of printing the book, and this is what allows us not only to give you five contributor's copies to share, but also to give the remainder of the books away, free, at Chicago area literary events. We know that copies of Journal of Modern Poetry won't sit in a dusty box waiting to be purchased because within days of its release, all copies will be in the hands of the people. Nearly 4,000 copies of Poetry Cram have so far been given away at such distinguished venues as The Harold Washington Library, The Printers Row Book Fair, The Woodland Pattern Bookstore, The Museum of Contemporary Art and The AWP Conference at the Chicago Hilton. This past April, we gave away 300 copies of Cram 13 to people attending the Public Library poetry fest. Because copies of Cram are distributed for free to those who love poetry, Cram has become one of the most read poetry publications coming out of Chicago today. If you want your poetry read by a lot of people, Poetry Cram is the answer.
THE CRAM 14 MONEY BACK GUARANTEE
Unfortunately, it will be impossible to include everyone's poetry. If for any reason your work is not selected for inclusion in Journal of Modern Poetry, you will receive a full refund of your printing cost donation.
THE GUIDELINES
--Journal of Modern Poetry is looking to showcase some of the best poetry written today, whether it is traditional or experimental. All forms, style and subject matter will be accepted as long as it meets our length requirements*. It doesn't matter where you live. All poets will be given equal consideration.
--*We have to fit your poetry on the Poetry Cram page, so we are currently not accepting long poems. Poems should be 35 lines or less, including spaces between lines, and lines should be no longer than 12 words long.
--By submitting your poetry, you agree to allow ChicagoPoetry.com to publish your work both in hard copy and online. If chosen for publication, you will receive five contributor's copies of Journal of Modern Poetry, to either be picked up at a book release event (details TBA) or to be mailed to you free of charge.
--Please send only original work written by you. Poetry must be primarily in the English language. Previously published work is okay. Copyright reverts back to you after publication.
--Poets may submit up to five poems for consideration, but only one poem per poet will be chosen for publication.
--If at any time it is determined that enough submissions have been received to sustain the publication, ChicagoPoetry.com reserves the right to halt this open call. This means that priority will be given to early submissions, so it's wise not to wait until the last minute to submit.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Journal of Modern Poetry is offering a money back guarantee. All poets whose work is not selected for publication will receive a full refund of their printing cost donation.
To submit, FIRST: CLICK HERE to make your donation of $30 through PayPal. This is a cooperative effort. The donations are pooled together to fund the printing of the book, the cost of postage to deliver contributors' copies as well as the prize money.
NEXT: Before the deadline, send up to five of your best poems to Publisher@ChicagoPoetry.com.
The best way to submit your poetry is as an attachment in Microsoft Word or Works with all your poetry included in a SINGLE document (not five separate documents). Also include a short cover letter letting me know who you are, and include all your contact information in the cover letter.
DEADLINE for submissions to Journal of Modern Poetry is July 15, 2012 but priority will be given to early submissions.
Journal of Modern Poetry promises to be an exciting new chapter in the Poetry Cram saga. I can't wait to read your submissions.
Yours in poetry,
CJ Laity
Editor, Poetry Cram Magazine

He is the author of four books of poetry and numerous chapbooks, including The Night We Danced With the Raelettes and All Over America: Road Poems (FootHills Publications, 2009), which is based on 60,000+ miles or road trip experiences throughout U.S. and Canada. He is also the co-author of the book Back Beat, of which Lawrence Ferlinghetti said: "Back Beat beats everything for being beater than the Beats." Rossiter's poetry has also been featured on National Public Radio, the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival in New Jersey as well as at the Chicago Blues Festival. He has led poetry workshops all over the country. PoetryAward.org is proud to have Mr. Rossiter serve as the judge for the inaugural Contemporary American Poetry Prize.
Sponsor. PoetryAward.org and the Contemporary American Poetry Prize is sponsored by CJ Laity, twelve year veteran publisher of ChicagoPoetry.com, curator of the Poetry Cram Magazine contest and twenty year host of poetry events and festivals for such distinguished venues as the Chicago Public Library, the Poetry Foundation's Printers Ball and the Chicago Tribune Printers Row Book Fair.

CRAMFORMATION
*Cram is edited by well known publisher CJ Laity. Submission does not guarantee publication. Printing fee will be refunded if your poem is not selected for publication.
--Cram is titled after the popular open mic event, The Poetry Cram.
--There are no restrictions as to subject matter, style or form. The more variety the better. Let us see what you have.
--Cram is open to all poets, previously published or unpublished.
--You don't have to be from Chicago to submit to Cram. If you have a poem published in Cram, but you're not around to get your free copy, one will be sent to you by mail free of charge.
--Previously published work is okay.
--You can submit up to three poems, but only one poem will be chosen for publication per issue.
--We are presently only accepting submission by e-mail and only accepting donations toward the printing cost by use of the link to PayPal above. For your security, only tiny amounts of money are kept in the PayPal account at any given time. We are not currently accepting submissions by snail mail.
--Crams are handmade by editor CJ Laity. They are truly collectors items.
--Always include a short cover letter letting the editor know a little bit about yourself any time you submit poetry to a publication. It is professional to do so and increases your chances of getting published.
--If possible, send your poetry submission as an attachment in a word document. You can submit in the body of the email, but sometimes doing it that way changes the form of your poem.
--Copyrights revert back to individual authors after publication. That means you can republish your work, but it's polite to mention Cram as the publication your poem first appeared in.
--ChicagoPoetry.com reserves the right to publish and distribute unlimited copies of Cram or to put into additional printings any volume of Cram.

Cram will always be distributed free to the public. How cool is that?
Sorry!!! All available copies of Cram 1, 2 and 3 have been distributed free to the public. We would say that they are "sold out" but we didn't sell them; we gave them away FREE. We may do another printing of any volume at any time, so check back to see what's available.
WHAT A CRAMFULLY CRAZY IDEA!
Poetry Cram Magazine, published by ChicagoPoetry.com Press, is a wonderful idea that is so crazy that it works. Cram is not funded by government grants or by corporations. It has great karma because the people who love poetry the most, the poets, fund it. The small amounts of money that the poets chip in go directly toward the printing of Cram. The more poets who participate, the more copies of Cram can be printed. When more copies are printed, more people get it for free and read it. This guarantees that your poetry will find its way into the hands of the people. Let's face it! People rarely ever buy poetry books, but people love to get free stuff. Cram is not going to sit in a box and collect dust because we are giving it away! Isn't that crazy?
What? You say you don't have a poem but want to send a gift to help with the printing of Cram anyway? Every buck you donate creates another issue of Cram. CLICK HERE TO CHIP IN..
