A Poem

This wasn't noted to be inspired
at any point in your perception of it
(at what moment when missed
steals your face) or--stifle me
for a moment--these eyes probing and
once established he, it's not what you think
(not how-to, how-tow) twice, no me and you here;

would the through be thought out deaf
and keep asking--concerning it with the point
or might it find what youness means; I am.
blurry and what I mean, what stifles that
is just that--i.e. rasberries representing sexual tension;

You're kissing that woman you hardly
He is a sovereign, and stands on the center
buying a gift to see it being opened, I
the reaching starts and keeps me, hardly
knowing it, that's what you want a

thousand pixels in your ear, you the sound
outside it's wasting you as rain kills, necessarily,
as the traffic will stop you-don't be
hesitating now, don't now don't do it!
sounds familiar, but you three years you
haven't changed which says absolutely nothing

to say: was there never when sometime meant
something-these are the breaths of laughter
sucked true and deep, but never inciting disgust
(you false gigglers know who you are)
and always meeting never for a cup of conversation;

like it was that easy in the mud
says one, associating this memory with that
like you were inspired (a perception
lit up from behind, causing large, ravenous
shadow to emerge, engulfing smallness as
even small shadows do) like you were pulling
others in just now! --the foul-smelling substance

is on your perfect hands, just look
at your perfect hands.

Modern Life #00001

When plumes befriend
awaiting winter winds, tepid
between poles both fixed and moving,
an embryonic tree frog sleeps soundly
while memories black, swampy, time-worn,
enter through capillaries thin as thread
(thin as the thread of life)

numerous tiny puddles
filling the cavernous pores
of the rotting log, as the flitting
chirp of insatiable crickets
finds new ears among an instant
flock of geese, which,
when plumes befriend,
suddenly drowns
in the tumult of approaching jets.

A Poem

what to have been
not my message
but her justice, like a spool
(unwinding in front of her
when she attempts me
and disengages, without seeing
my eyebrows for what they
really feel, my countenance
at once offending and dispossessed),
reels the self, itself
a thing to negotiate.

look again, there it is again
same thing and a voice
maybe this time recalled for now

and its meaning alights
a specific message
imagery cannot serve
so I leave it, and her,
well, the chair still turns
into some visage

a scent perhaps
or a color.

used to know, but thought
knowing not, remembering true,
that it was me and now me where,
who and its implicit meaning
means that I do remember,
always better
as never now is.

Showing the World

To erase a face an impossibility
breath moving over it see
defining it a slab in position
but to attain is almost motion as
we assume foregoing transcendence
and erect transparent posts
with our respective prepositional flags
easily letting slide multiple meaningless gerunds
a space in between dot dot dot a space
mere models demonstrating the stand-in
the go-ahead the slow dissolve
as not of this time is opening potential
into ungraspable expanses
outstripping the narrow streams
we so much prefer.

Two Elbows Rubbing

The obvious being stated
two truths converged
even two elbows rubbing
(of course this is love
in its inexhaustible glorious syntax)
reaffirms the primacy of convergence-
this infinite embrace divine-
simple volition explaining away
the solipsistic angst embedded deep
if only then and there if only
exacting some shared divination
between self-cognizance and
the suddenly protracted moment.

The Threat of Jazz

is very real backhand pressing
palm up that's jazz's gift
the tiniest box wait catch
the lingo strict follow hard slang
picture color then absence of no
limit to idioms' reach
convey order emotive mask
sleeve unfurl not smoke the sleeve folded up
but without sleeves and crying and wailing
sail beneath unfurled that's jazz's gift
you open the tiny box
it requires an open heart
not now but from the start it's
already open brandishing its pistols
heavy fragrant smoking ivory

descend the dissenter one level
down two down five down seven
stepping to see the strategic fly off
cunning off press the hand single
motion palm digits fluid but single
repeat hard repeat backhand repeat
palm up wall of smoke you mime
counting in counting baron duke
shout shift and hands and air

up now and there's the threat real
it looms a crow's beak and stark
down shift of a sudden stark black
and air breaking down seven down five
each burst again pressing the air
locks in small
suggesting patient truth
patient fly off and slow ripples
the sleeve and then rain down seven
down five but one level boom solid
the image is the swan laying Leda
repeat through the opening
quick get through waving fields warm
squinting sun absence of birds
no beaks or rolled up sleeves
just the open air unfurling
each rhythm like a sail

his laugh is really a yell
of coal and trains and anger
down seven generations
down five decades and me a man
cunning off and on again
the digits fluid air
the real threat the one shout
but why moan or why wail
why blow and why cry
when there in the thick sudden
of hand clasp in the moving love-tapped street
picking you up into a spin and poof
it's movement and promises that squint
and can't see pain blowing pain crying
counting off each smoky tune
you're not in the room now
or shouting or questioning what's fluid
no it's not threatening then is
descending down
two stairs
and out
