Buddha Smiling While the Cops Wail Outside My Window

It's nighttime
police sirens wailing
down the crack and
doom of racial profiling

invisible criminals and
kind brains stressed and
sleepless concocting their
own ideas of Buddha-
hood and possible
Kerouacian heaven

w/ all the cold steel
that could erect a
monument to phallicdom

w/ the Buddha in
the corner of my room
cheap and shoddy bought
at some tiki place halfa
nose chipped off

and smiling

and smaller one next
to golden eternity and
alms in hand Buddha
Junior bought at foodmart
golden amidst the cheap
cigarillos and titty mags

still smilin'

cus Buddha statues
don't hear sirens

only I do

and you can stack high
all the wars and titty mags
and cigarillos

the fuck ups break ups
suck offs jerk offs
kick outs cops and
criminals

stretch 'em to the
sky like steel

take a good hard
look and then die

but Buddha statues
don't see

only I do

somewhere now a kid's
lyin' naked next to
a freckled chick listening
to the crackhead's lullaby
a cuckoo when the cops
come around the corner

he touches her thigh
and thinks of how he'll
break up with her

WHEN A HUNDRED FRENCH PEOPLE TALK AT ONCE IT SOUNDS LIKE GHOSTS WHISPERING IN YR EAR (POETRY WRITTEN ON THE ROAD TO MONTREAL)
Talkin' Albany Goin' 70

Your service
stations have
got balls the
size of greasy
port-a-johns

It's rainin'
in upstate New York
on retired colonels in
Winnebagos n'
cornfields

Truckers jerk off
to skin flicks
in lone yards

Freights tucked away
abandoned shacks
yellow crane left
standing and mills
all rusting

Green green green
goes the fast ground

8/6/00
Albany, New York

Bridge at the End of Wiscaset

Damn! I love
the dead body
of water resurrected
through smell of
the sea lobster
traps docked
boats vagina
river carrying
itself out by
mist to the gaping
hole of the
Atlantic

Screw Maine!
and I mean that

I wanna taste
every body of
water

8/'7/00
Wiscaset, Maine

Daniel, I Can See Myself in You

Ever since I
was a little kid
I've wanted to be
in the middle of
the ocean

in the middle
of the night
preferably and
be completely
lost

just to know
what hopelessness
tastes like in
a sweet blue
abyss

the one time
I can't do
anything or
see anything but
be completely free

now I sit
on the jagged
rocks in
Acadia with
my younger brother
looking out over
the Atlantic

he looks just
like I did years
ago on my
grandmother's
balcony in Jupiter
Florida staring
into the dark
pigment sea
at night

8/8/00
Acadia National Park, Maine

The Ocean Commands You to Keep Writing
(Written for Fellow Poets Across the Map)

The poem
be the
sea

The sea
be yr
guide

You can't
see to
the other
side

but you
can hear
it roar

8/9/00
Acadia National Park, Maine

On Watching the Sunset Over the Atlantic in Le Buttereau, Cape Breton

Someone stuck
a hot poker in
the sky

a molten
teardrop
drooping dropping
down

with a hot
finger pointed
straight at
my heart

slipping slipping
away

drooping dropping
goodnight

slip and drop
under ocean covers
gone

8/13/00
Nova Scotia, Canada

Trans-Canadian 104

All's normal
in Sherbrooke

the mist
covers the
low green
mountains

rails run
by stopping at
exits gettin' off
at Dairy Queens
and strange
Canadian gas stations

house after barn
after dilapidated
shack after empty
billboard quiet
country road singin'
a sweet sad tune
foggin' the front
window of a car
that I do believe
is goin somewhere
on that highway
to heaven

8/14/00
Nova Scotia, Canada

To Live Like a Dirty King

If I had
a nickel for
every beautiful
woman I saw
in Montreal

I'd roll 'em
up stick 'em
in my pocket
and go drink
a bottomless
cup of coffee
at some outside
cafe in the
Latin Quarter

People 'd
toss me change
and wonder why

The Nose and Mouth of America

On the wharf
fresh air of
ocean breeze

You can taste
the fried clams
and Coke syrup
batter sea in
your mouth

the pure
America is a
true sense of
smell

the docks are
good to be alive
sniffing love
of large body
cold water

9/29/99

SexBomb

(for Joanna)

I am the bomb
I am the bomb
dropped dead millions
of angels cracking
the ground flashes
at night

You are the bomb
tiny atom fucker
stuck in the
middle repetitive
thrust and sweat

Big screw bomb
explosion your thighs
killed the lights
your breath broke
the mirrors

You jerk a million
civilians

You crazy bomb
gripped in ecstacy
and terror
my trembling
Hiroshima head

I cannot stand
the heat I want
to grab your ass
that crushed the
floor breaking my
knees

Soothe the floor
blowing my atoms

and give me
slow napalm
savage death

Press your buttons
Lick my fuse

Screw explosions
and blow up
night

******************

You are locks
in the Pentagon
illumination in
America

I want to swallow
the key down
to the waste
while my cock
dies fighting

It will fuck
the sky a
phallic mushroom
cloud

We are the
bomb blowing
this country
proud

******************

I am the bomb
I am the bomb
You are the bomb
screwing explosions
and blowing up
the night
