Poetry: Click On The Author's Name RED POP

Iím sitting in the
yard with Crush, drinking the tired
sun down. Everything

is air, golden sky,
embellished vision, a joke,
a roaring laugh, a

tickling division.
Two peas in a pod, two cubes
in the glass, two die

in the cup: two drunks
liquored up. Shimmering talk
flutters by, nonsense,

a vapid remark
brought down to hear, a pallet
piqued melody. A

confused glow from you
to me. Pheromones buzzing -
homesick honeybee.

No wince, no strange past,
just beer beneath breath, clouded
heat steam stumbling

from someone too near,
poised for anyone to hear.
Just a traveling

fanfare blown through our
hair, a whisper in each ear
a bottle cap pressed

into each palm, a
wish for the first grade school kiss.
Where are his hands, where

could they be? My knee
and his knees could be winking
with salt lime giggles.

My feet are smiling
too. I am smooth, a murky
lagoon, the moon. A

cooling ivy blue.
Dangling dirty sandals with
sun spot eyes for two.

Stay vexed. Donít leave, donít
you want to stay to see what
happens next? Crush leers

kind and persuasive,
hopelessly taken, teasing
and light. This oneís got

to turn out right. Go
first, Iíve got a record to
uphold. The foolish

hare, a coy lazy
stare, a weary lover whoís
been double dared. Please

return my stare. Red
violet wash, polished toes, torn
skin, splinter, subtract.

Quick kiss it better.
Lonely stars return my stare.
Chaos begins to blare.

I DIDN'T, ASSHOLE

I didnít excuse myself awkwardly
In a lofty prose attack, although I
was feeling off, snotty - undoubtedly
sneaky Ė swindled poems for beer on all sides.

Argument sleeping on our drunken tongues -
That tired and true scam, foxy intention -
You with your mean love, and me with my love,
Baring our deepest failure acumen.

You didnít believe my weak surrender -
Affluence for routine, like some cool ruse -
Like I spoiled your night, slighted your mother,
Lied to trump you. Iím sure you hate me too,

Asshole. In the ladiesí room, nothingís wrong,
I left to better hear that far-off song.

MIDHEAVEN
- or - ode to my downstairs neighbor

You donít think I think of you, but I do.

Sometimes in almost
Morning, almost sleep,
I think of your dreams,
Marilyn Monroe.
I know I wake you.

Last Mondayís crawl home
Falling upstairs, drunk
On Old Style, loud heels,
Covers, and fancraze.
I warmed leftovers,

Eyes glazed and feeling
The hangover come.
Itís not quite love, or
A secret craving,
Just something set down.

Wrestle the pillow
Over your ears, like
Trying to remove
A burr from you hair.
Keep the vacuum still.

When I take my pain
Pill. When I practice
my dance routine, flute,
Baton twirl, bondage
Rack in a cat suit.

You donít think I think of you, but I do.

When I left my clothes
Too long in the wash,
Two days in the dryer,
You folded them clean,
Laid in the garbage.

Kill them with kindness -
Barely seen or heard -
Maybe I smile too
Much, or it annoys
You, my lowered head.

Should we be better
friends? Should I have baked
A pie? Invited
You to dinner with
Closeness like goodbye?

Do you want to be
Left alone to bask
In your home? The third
Floor, no upstairs twit,
From here, no pound

To wake you with the
Sun. Take the car spot.
Fed up from my mid-
Heaven, my platform
Shoes and grey doldrums.

You donít think I think of you, but I do.

What could you gain if
Rain broke the ceiling?
Me framed on your wall
Thought and feign aloof,
Pretend to be tame.

Iíve penned you into
Fame, ink on the page:
Life everlasting.
Bring me touch-me-nots.
Babe, leave me resting.

The dumb blond upstairs
The silly stupid
Skirt. Mayqueen, mayweed,
Vinegar and tick-
Seed, appears in a

Dream. A hipster fink.
Weíll never know our
lot and time breathing
bind, cohesive try.
I watch from your sky.

Morning wood like a
Cocked gun, a kiss for
A beer, youíre such a
Deer. Iíll see you soon
On the outskirts blue.

You donít think I think of you, but I do.
