Poetry: Click On The Author's Name Poetry by Cathy Parker

MY LITTLE OLD WASHER

My little old washer
Is tired and gray.
It's heart beats slower
Every day.

I drag it from it's corner
To use it when I must.
It's legs are so wobbly.
They bear a little rust.

It's glory days are over.
It's strength is fading out.
Life is for the living, tho'
Of this, it has no doubt.

Beat on, little washer.
Live out your numbered days.
You know, you must keep going
To earn God's precious gaze.

MY MIRROR

My mirror has aged!
It used to look so young!
But now it stares
with hardened glares
Of dull, lost bygone days!

I primp
I prime
"To share the load"
Of trying to keep youth
In the glass.

But the mirror's age
Glares strangely back,
Even at my back;
As I wander down life's road

MEETING AT THE WORK PLACE

And my mother knew
Of my father's weakness.
And my mother knew
It could not be changed.

And my mother knew
That she loved my father.
And my mother knew
It could not be changed.

And to my father
My mother gave
At the work week's end;
Some money.

LOVE

Love is forever--or it isn't love.
It doesn't start somewhere--to end somewhere.

It only lies dormant
Until it becomes alive.

Once it is alive, if it is real;
It can never die----

THEREFORE, IT ALWAYS WAS!!!

FIRST LOVE

I sat on the bed
Full of homemade cut-out dolls
And clothes.

Peeking through
Dark green slices
Of ripped shades
Of dirty windows

My love, My love,
My heart, my body beats,
My love, my love,
In uniform.

My eyes, in secret,
sought your face,
Your handsome face.
Please do not see me.

Across the street,
You sat.
Unaware, unaware.
Oh! my heart. Unaware.

Then came the day
My broken heart,
First love dreams
That fell apart.

I read the news!
You were engaged!
You sat,
Across the street, unaware.

I peeked through
Green sliced shades.
A wet faced stare.
You were unaware.

GLASSES

I'm just a bar maid, trying to do my job.
I make the drinks.
For sweethearts and for slobs.

It ain't so bad.
It pays the bills.
It keeps me going on.

The jokes are fun.
The people good.
Though sometimes a cause to yawn.

But those damn glasses!!
They keep piling up
Behind my back on the bar!!!

I wash and dry!
I wash and dry!
Till my hands want to say enough!!!

Enough already!!!!!!! I don't like white prunes!
But those damn glasses keep piling up
Among the jukebox tunes.

FLY ON THE WINDOW SILL

Fly on the window sill
Fat, not flying.
As a child, I watched you.
buzzing--OLD--dying.

Curiously, I toyed with you.
Prodded, poked at you!
SQUASHED YOU!!!

now, I am that fly----

ETERNAL FLOWER

I walked on God's earth one summer's day.
I saw a rose on display.
It's head was full of red misty dew,
Such beauty--that I knew;
I had to care and share it's love.

On days of dryness, I watered it's soul.
I watched it's seemingly sameness glow.
One day it changed, as sameness does.
It's petals fell to the earth below.
It returned to it's birthplace, earth.

It was of no use anymore--as a rose, to humans!!!!!

God made roses.
God loves roses.
God takes care of roses.
Especially, when they are not roses anymore.

APPLES

I use to climb an apple tree
When I was very young.
I climbed it high--up to the sky.
There from the limbs, I hung.

I used to sit and see the world
Way up there in the sky.
OH!! GLORY DAYS!! When I was young,
And apples caught my eye.

But memories of days gone by
Are all I have to tell--
For mothers don't climb apple trees,
They just bake apples well.
