Poetry: Click On The Author's Name .

Hand trembles
a lone grey hair plucked
not to weep
older woman?
not to laugh
Wise Goddess
but to understand

High Priestess
insensed by
this shell of skin
because it is not
who I am

it is merely a convienient carrying case
of my soul
my eternally skipping soul
silly song soul
laughter laced
seriously educated soul
tempered by the fire
of breathing daily
no easy slip down
a water skide
glide for me
this life
a series of cresendos
this body
the lips of men once trembled to touch
with aching desire…
is now married!
I soar on wings of devil may care
I can run out in my PJ’s
and a coat
walk on the beach at midnight in February
with my tuxedoed caped crusader fresh from
battling the blues
with singular songs for the wealthy
wondering where
and how
the roof
four walls
three children
and van
life house car
will be sustained
when art is all
and jobs are not
eating saxophone music
munching on trumpet notes
spreading poetry on rye
songs for the Falcon
swooping overhead
feasting on the burrow
where our family
The place we have
squirrels in the attic
our children dance merrily
tummies full of peanut butter
and pasta
poor people’s food
Rich people’s art
We live
as birds on the breeze
always singing..

She takes my baby girl’s name and rolls it off her tongue
as if it were an awkward attempt at tossing a bowling ball
Her name – one of the most common in America
Comes clunking down the lane of my Muslim neighbor’s mouth
As an alien delicacy
Strangely savored
“Kay – tea”
As if she were saying “Okay, let’s have tea!”
“Okay, let’s do lunch!”
But, she really wants to hold this bundle of love
“Have you been to the beach yesterday?” She asks me,
“Baby has sand on chest”
I cut to the sand spilled in the hallway
The sand I swept up yesterday
The sand my 2 year old spread all over our foyer
From our fourth of July beach odyssey
The toys thoughtfully brought up by Daddy
Filled with sand
Reminders of the lake
The baby was in the hallway with Daddy
As he packed up his instruments for a musical today
Of playing trumpet
My neighbor shoots me with her eyes
For my darling’s sandy chest.
I take the baby back
And move on to our fruit and bagel breakfast,
laced with prayers
of gratitude for Kay-Tea
and the wonderous universality of

The blissful silence of early mornings breath
rise and fall baby’s chest
fragile flower fragrence
latching on to me
my breast is tingling with milk
his baby bracelets
are rings of jolly good feedings
morning noon and night
the night time
is when we wrestle from right breast
to left
I pull his round little body over mine
to switch in this babytime dance
his hand seeks a partner
when he’s on my right breast, he grabs my left
pulls it to him
in a painful squeeze
squirting us both
and Daddy too!
I have a new way to get Daddy’s attention
from across the room
without saying a word
simple fluid eruption
lava leche

When my baby parts from me
opaque fluid trickles from the corner of his mouth
with a sigh
my mouth is the Sahara
a searing parched land
where all water has been detoured
to my breasts
which are round and firm
turning into footballs each
Milk through the dam of my clothing
when my baby and me, we are apart
puddles form on my chest
Nipples Niagra
a fountain for youth!
Apart, my heart beats
I miss my baby I miss my baby I miss my baby
and all urges are pistons pumping in my legs
to carry me back to him.

For Teodoro and Katrina Marie, fresh in memory and existence!

For my unborn daughter:

I want to create for you
A new world
A world where women get equal pay for equal work
A world where all people are accepted as one people: human
A world where everyone is allowed their
differences, and celebrated because of them
A world where women are not
eye candy
Being wanked off to
The tune of the internet
Raped every 9 minutes
A world where pregnant women do NOT have the highest homicide rate
And domestic violence does NOT exist on any level.

A new world
Where women are cherished sisters united together in life
By life
Through life
We give life freely
Happily lustfully and raise that life responsibly, fully, passionately.
In an educated manner befitting the rank of a citizen of spaceship Earth.
A new world
Where the United States possesses a seat on the United Nations
Health care is not a luxury – but a right!
I never want you to know the pain of the words chuckled to me,
"There isn't an insurance company in America that will cover you right now. Pregnancy is a hell of a pre-existing condition. Even your husband can't be covered."
While Daddy groans in pain from a tooth infection.
I want to create for you a new world
Of Technicolor heroines who are their own saviors
A world where Prince Charming is a myth
And a female president is a fact
A world where the male dominated tyranny of the Talaban in Afghanistan is a long ago atrocity
That does not exist.

Oh! My unborn daughter!
My precious angel
Here on earth
I want to create for you a new world.
Currently a work in progress
Like you!
